Defining Kartini’s Roles in Today’s Workplace
Before the pandemic struck the country, Kartini's Day was celebrated in a festive, grand fashion. Schools held carnivals, where the children dressed in traditional Indonesian attires or baju adat. However, the pandemic makes us redefine the true meaning of Kartini’s Day. April 21st is not only about wearing baju adat and being proud of where we came from but also honoring Kartini’s efforts and ways of thinking to fight for women's emancipation, especially equal education rights.
Kartini fought for women's freedom to make their own choices in life. She visioned a world where women were able to take the highest level of education possible, achieve the career of their dreams, and contribute to their surrounding environments in their unique ways, be it in the household, the office, or the nation.
In its business operations, ACE Indonesia, as part of the Kawan Lama Group, also highly appreciates and values the roles of women. In terms of recruitment, ACE does not discriminate between genders in employee selection or when determining promotions. It is regulated in the Career Planning Policy - 036 / KLG / BPI & MS / KBJ / III / 2019.
Currently, the proportion of employees based on gender in ACE reaches 30% women and 70% men, with some of the managerial / director level seats filled by women.
In terms of facilities and benefits, Kawan Lama has provided a lactation room on the 3rd floor at the head office. Every female employee is entitled to 3 months of maternity leave. Each department can also hold events or activities related to women's empowerment.
One of the events held most recently is GP Women Empowerment Day 2021 #GPWED2021. The General Purchasing (GP) department held a talk show and photo contest on 5 March 2021 which took place online and offline. The proportion of female employees in the GP department that reaches 56% was one of the grounds for the #GPWED2021 event.
With the theme of Hidden Gems, the sharing session at this event was intended to inspire the female employees in the GP department to recognize their full potential and strengths, so that their performance can be further improved and bring satisfaction for themselves. GP Women Empowerment Day 2021 presented speakers and success stories from women leaders in the Kawan Lama Group.
Going forward, ACE will continue to strive to maintain and improve a safe, comfortable, and empowering work environment for all female employees who have contributed to ACE Indonesia's business. Happy Kartini's Day!
