ACE Provides Access to Clean Water in Biau Village
ACE, through Kawan Lama Foundation, provided access to clean water for Biau village, located in Io Kufeu sub-district, East Nusa Tenggara. This program took place in February 2021 in collaboration with Solar Chapter Foundation.
Biau Village is one of the water-deprived areas in Indonesia. For years, they experienced difficulty accessing clean water for their daily necessities. There are 219 households in this village, and every day they have to walk more than 5 km to access clean water.
Recognizing their struggle, ACE was moved to provide access to clean water for Biau village. Activities undertaken to achieve this mission include:
- Installing solar panels as a source of electricity to power the water pump.
- Installing pumps to draw water from an ample freshwater source.
- Installing 5 km - long pipelines to stream the water from its source to the villagers’ homes.
- Rejuvenating the water reservoir
The abundant sunlight in Biau Village makes solar panels the ideal source of electricity. Not only that, but solar panels also make a self-sufficient solution as they do not come with the burden of electricity costs. Now, 700 Biau villagers are free to enjoy easy access to clean water.
The installation of the clean water facilities took approximately one week. Not stopping there, they will be sustainably managed and monitored by Solar Chapter Foundation.
“Water for Biau” is ACE's first CSR project in the field of Clean Water Supply. Moving forward, ACE will continue to collaborate with trusted foundations and local communities to cater to other water-deprived areas in Indonesia.
